You may be a true foodie or even a food snob. You may be up with the latest food trends like edible insects or you might love eating poke or sorghum-based meals. Youmay be a stickler for food sourcing, are an intrepid forager or a food trend humper. But have you caught up with these over the top food trends?
Let tastecard catch you up with a closer look at some funny food trends that are either brilliantly innovative or absolutely bonkers.
Lapping up Birch Water
Forget about sparkling single estate water. Forget about raw water. Forget about coconut water. Welcome to birch water. Drink in this low carb super-drink rich in minerals such as potassium, zinc, and manganese and stay hydrated forever. This traditional Baltic beverage is tapped from a birch tree in a similar manner to maple syrup and has a sweet taste. However, the actual health benefits of birch water haven’t been clearly documented. Still you’re sure to find it on a trendy restaurant menu near you. After all, if this food trend is good enough for high performance athletes in Russia…
The Legendary Benefits of Unicorn Toast
This food trend will appeal and appal in equal measure. Unicorns are actually real. Actually, unicorn toast is real. As you can see from the photo below, this rainbow coloured trendy snack was invented by food photographer Adeline Waugh back in 2017 but is still going. It sure looks pretty but it tastes like cream cheese on toast because that’s exactly what it is. Toasted bread with cream cheese. Cream cheese that has been coloured with natural food colourings like beetroot juice and blueberry powder to give it that special unbelievable unicorn look. We know that tastecard holders are adventurous when eating out. But we’re sure our dining club members are far more sensible than to believe in unicorn toast any time soon.
If you have tried unicorn toast though, why not upload a photo of it to Instagram for the whole tastecard community to see. We just hope you got 50% off food offers with your unicorn toast!
Ramp up your Morning with Bulletproof Coffee
Want to take on the world as soon as you wake? Then start your morning with some Bulletproof Coffee. What is that, we hear you ask? Basically, it’s coffee with butter in it. Yum. Combine top quality coffee beans with Brain Octane Oil (we’re not making this up) and 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter and you have a special drink. The claims made for this food trend are out of this world. Not only does bulletproof coffee provide you with a zen-like focus, improve your cognitive functions but it will also help you lose weight. This is definitely not your average latte so maybe avoid bulletproof coffee at the end of meal when you’re dining out with tastecard!

Deconstruct These Restaurant Deals
When you dine out in a restaurant, you want to see a perfectly put-together meal that is beautifully presented on the plate. Don’t you? Well, not if you want to eat a deconstructed dish. Look forward instead to a plate filled with all the ingredients of a classic dish but rearranged in a novel way. How do you fancy an unlayered tiramisu or guacamole broken down to its components? Or how about a BLT sandwich with the bacon, lettuce and tomato all separate from the bread? Yes, deconstructed dishes are a really exciting food trend.
Share your stories of deconstructed dishes on Twitter so we can all learn from your experiences!
