Cross a whole load of sushi with a bunch of chopstick-savvy waiters and what do you get? tastecard’s first ever pop-up restaurant, Hands Off!
Each night between June 10th and 14th 2019, tastecard hosted its first ever pop-up restaurant at Carousel Spaces in Marylebone, London, to raise money for our partner charity, Mary’s Meals.
A dining experience fit for foodies who like a side of laziness with their sushi, when we say that guests had to keep their hands to themselves, we mean it. No touching food. No touching chopsticks. No finger-dipping in the soy sauce. All they had to do was sit back, relax and open wide whilst the steady-handed waiter sat opposite them popped sushi and other traditional Japanese cuisine in their mouths.
Catered by Feng Sushi, the three-course menu fed to guests was made up of some Delicious with a capital D dishes. For starters, there were vegan mock duck pancakes and wilted spinach parcels with a satay dip. The main was a mix of sushi rolls, including crab California rolls and cucumber and avocado Green Goddess rolls. And dessert was the classic Japanese rice-cake, mochi.
The guestlist for Hands Off! was packed with musicians, journalists, artists and influencers. And every single one of them was a self-proclaimed foodie. Some die-hard Japanese cuisine fans got stuck into the different kinds of sushi and mochi on offer straight away, whilst the sashimi and wasabi-sceptical were pleasantly surprised. Alex Gardner from UNiDAYS told us “I’ve never had sushi before so wasn’t sure what to expect but the food was so good. I’ll definitely be trying it again.”
And some others, like Strictly Come Dancing 2019 finalist Karim Zeroual, lapped up the experience and atmosphere as well as the food: “The food was amazing but the experience was surreal! Great concept and a sick thing to do with a group of mates. And the girl who served us was lovely!”
We can’t promise the Hands Off! experience at our 6,000+ tastecard restaurants, but we can promise 2 for 1 meals or 50% off food at every single one. So even though you won’t get waited on hand, foot and mouth, we’re all about hospitality and giving customers an exclusive dining experience and lending a helping hand. And whether that’s helping you save money or getting fed, hospitality is hospitality, right?
