This March, it’s Veggie Month. We all know there’re plenty of reasons to turn your palate green, like getting full-on animal-friendly, helping the planet and taking care of our bodies. But it can be tricky to figure out what to eat for your new veggie diet.

So, in the spirit of all things green, we’ve rounded up five veggie-friendly foods to keep your iron and protein intakes up, as well as some must-try products.

Green veggies

Without any red meat in your life, you’ll need to get your iron fix from somewhere else. Green vegetables like broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cabbage are ideal. And leafy greens like spinach, kale and chard are packed with the stuff.

Who’s Jackfruit?

If you’re craving a meat substitute, Jackfruit’s your man. With the stringy texture of pulled pork, it’s the perfect addition to tacos and burgers. And it’s even made its way into some sweet dishes too like jellies and upside down cakes. Talk about an all-rounder.

Lentils and Beans

To keep your skin, muscles and hair healthy and strong (just the way you like them), getting enough protein in a veggie diet is key. So, lentils and beans like chickpeas, black beans and broad beans are a must. And they’re really flexible too, making the perfect meat substitute for curries, chilis and spag bol.

Tofu or not Tofu?

Stir fry? Tofu. Tacos? Tofu. Ramen? Tofu. You get the gist. Bursting with all the good stuff like iron, calcium, amino acids and more, tofu will be your new best veggie friend. Made from the curds of soy milk, it doesn’t sound all that appetising but trust us, it’s a great ingredient to pack out any meatless meal with.

Moving Mountains

If you’re heading into veggie territory for purely environmental reasons or just to give it a go, you might be craving some meat substitutes that are meat-like. The Moving Mountains burger is completely vegan but has the look, texture and taste of a real beef patty. Jam-packed with plant-proteins, mushrooms, beetroot juice, herbs, spices and vitamin B12, you won’t believe it ain’t meat.

Thinking of giving it a try? Well, you’re in luck. Ed’s Diner‘s vegan burger features the Moving Mountains patty and with your tastecard, you can get 50% off.
